You
An Ode
You pulled the craziest hat trick
Your needling shoves and smiling eyes
Pulled me out of words
What is a boy to do?
A coarse cooing laugh shielded me
From man’s sprawling infantry
Its billion charred pupils
Hollowed from banished thought
Your love a permanent autumn
So haunting we always skipped to spring
I knew days with you would be fatal
The way we never see a lake form
Your inevitable moving on
Choked the sky of its wind
A funereal wake of twig and did end
Anything of beauty along this sandy road
Only you knew how to spell the living
With that quick turn and taunting look
Even I, as the last man, knew you
Had some other more verdant galaxy to charm
I only ever a signatory to this accord
A courier, a missive amidst currents incomprehensible
A fanned leaf of the hunting owl
Giddy, mis-thinking my motion was anything other than the briefest borrowing
Of your kindled flame
